This page explains what winedealers.com.au does and does not do with information that can identify you. It is written in ordinary language on purpose. If a sentence would only work as a waiver, it does not belong here.
Wine Dealers is an editorial project. It does not sell wine and it does not need a customer account, a loyalty card, or a delivery address. Most readers can use every guide without sending us anything at all.
What we collect when you just read
If you open a page, our hosting provider and content-delivery systems may record technical data that websites ordinarily see: the address of the page, the time, a rough location derived from an IP address, a browser type, and security logs that exist to keep the site up. We do not use that stream to build a marketing profile of you as a wine buyer, and we do not sell it.
We do not ask you to create an account to read. We do not run a comments stack that would store a public identity. We do not need your date of birth to show you a guide — the 18+ notices are information, not an age-gate that stores a credential.
What we collect when you write
The contact form asks for:
- your name
- your email address
- your message
- a confirmation that you are 18 or older
Those fields are sent to the editorial inbox using FormSubmit, a third-party form service. FormSubmit’s systems will process the submission so that it arrives as an email. Their own privacy material applies to that processing. We use the information to understand the question and, if needed, to reply.
A hidden field on the form exists only to catch automated junk. If you can see it and you fill it in, treat the message as not intended for a human.
Please do not send:
- payment card numbers
- copies of driver licences or passports
- health records
- other people’s personal information
We do not need those things to correct a sentence about geographical indications.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal information. We do not trade an email address for a “partner” mailing. We do not use the form to enrol you in a club. We do not keep a store of favourite merchants against your name, because we do not recommend named merchants.
We do not take payment, so we do not store payment data. We do not deliver wine, so we do not store delivery instructions.
If the technology under the site changes — a new host, a new form processor — this page should change with it. The principle will not: collect little, use it for the reason you gave it, do not sell it.
How long we keep messages
Editorial emails are kept long enough to handle the question and to maintain a basic record of corrections. They are not a customer database. If you ask us to delete a message you sent, use the same form and say so clearly, from the same address if you can. We will delete what we control. Copies that exist in routine email backups or in FormSubmit’s logs will follow those systems’ ordinary retention.
Children
This site discusses alcohol. It is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If you believe a child has sent us a message, contact us and we will delete it.
Official sources we link to
Pages on this site link to Wine Australia, Australian Government health material, DrinkWise, and similar public bodies. Those sites have their own privacy notices. Following a link leaves our server.
Your rights
Australian readers may have rights to access and correct personal information an organisation holds about them, and to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if they cannot resolve a privacy issue directly. If you want to know what we hold that identifies you, write via the contact form and say that you are making an access request. We will need enough information to find the right message and to be confident we are replying to the right person — without asking for documents we do not need.
If you are in another country, local rights may also apply to processing that happens when you submit the form. The practical path is still the same: ask us, specifically, and we will deal with what we control.
Contact for privacy questions
Use the contact form and put “Privacy” at the start of the message. We will treat that as an editorial and administrative request, not as a wine order — because there is still no wine to order.
This notice sits beside the footer disclaimer on every page: the site is general information, not professional advice, and it does not create a client relationship. Privacy is how we handle the small amount of personal information that appears when you choose to write. Reading remains the quieter option, and it is enough for the guides to do their job.
